Pricing Research and Value Architecture

Price Sensitivity is the perception of the consumer to what would be the range of cost within which they will buy a particular product or service. Each customer has a certain price acceptability window and different customers have different limits in their perceptions of what price is within their range. This range is dependent on a number of variables including perceived value of the product, customer demographics and income and competitive pricing.

One key method we incorporate for determining if your product is priced correctly or could be increased or decreased, includes the following queries (although we have other price sensitivity measurement methods as well).
  • At what price would you consider the product to be so expensive that you would not consider buying it? (Too expensive)
  • At what price would you consider the product to be priced so low that you would feel the quality couldn't be very good? (Too cheap)
  • At what price would you consider the product starting to get expensive, so that it is not out of the question, but you would have to give some thought to buying it? (Expensive/High Side)
  • At what price would you consider the product to be a bargain-a great buy for the money? (Cheap/Good Value)
Promise Testing

A key element of your product's (or brand) success is its ability to deliver on the expectations of the consumer and further expectations instilled to the consumer by your advertising and other communications.

North American Testing's "Promise Testing" focuses on three key metrics:
  • Desired
  • Discriminating
  • Delivered
This unique evaluative tool identifies what features or benefits of the product are "desired", can they be clearly identified and is the product delivering. If the promise test is not successful, it is often necessary to adjust the product attributes and/or change the marketing message.
